ATEX Wi-Fi Access Points and Wireless Routers for Hazardous Areas

Certified tablets, scanners and cameras are only useful when they have a network, and Wi-Fi from the office rarely reaches the middle of a process unit. An ATEX access point brings the plant network into the zone: a certified radio in a certified housing, powered and connected in a way that cannot ignite the surrounding atmosphere. This category holds the wireless equipment we supply for Zone 1 and Zone 2, from access points to cellular routers and wireless I/O.

Access points and bridges

The Armadex Ex UAP-AC-PRO is a Wi-Fi access point for Zone 2/22 that fits into an existing UniFi network, so the IT department manages it like every other access point. The ATEX Ethernet Wireless Access Point and Bridge does the same for Zone 1 and can also link two network segments across a plant without a cable. The 1901-Z1 wireless access point and the ProSAFE Ex series cover Class I Zone 1 installations.

Cellular routers

Where there is no plant network at all, a cellular router creates one. The SWAR0033-440X0 is an explosion proof MiFi router and access point for Zone 1 that connects up to a handful of devices to 4G, and the Digi WR31 is a robust 4G/LTE router with ATEX approval for fixed installation, listed under routers. A multi-network roaming SIM card is available for sites where a single provider does not give reliable coverage.

Wireless I/O and gateways

Not everything that needs wireless is a person with a tablet. The ATEX Wireless Gateway 105U-G and the Wireless I/O 505U-K transport signals from sensors and switches to the control system over radio, which replaces long instrument cable runs in tank farms and remote well sites. Certified antennas, including Zone 0 versions, are listed separately.

An access point is a fixed installation, so the zone at the mounting point, the power supply and the cable entry all matter.
