ATEX Phones: Every Way to Make a Call in a Hazardous Area

A phone is the device most people carry into a zoned area, and the one most often carried in without thinking. This overview groups every certified way to call, message and photograph in ATEX and IECEx zones: smartphones, certified cases for consumer phones, simple mobile phones, fixed and cordless telephones, and smartwatches. Smartphones

The ATEX smartphones are full Android devices with certification for Zone 1/21 or Zone 2/22: the ecom Smart-Ex 03 DZ1 and DZ2, the i.safe MOBILE IS540.1 with 5G and 48 MP camera, and the BARTEC SP9 EX1 and EX2. This is the largest group and the right starting point for most users.

Keep your own iPhone or Samsung

Teams that are standardised on Apple or Samsung can keep their phones: the XCiel XCiPhone and XCS cases place a standard iPhone or Galaxy in a certified enclosure for Zone 2 and Division 2, the XCZ1 series does the same for Zone 1, and the Xshielder covers the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 17. The phone stays yours; the case carries the certification.

Simple phones for calling only

For calling and texting only, the ATEX mobile phones such as the IS120.2 and IS360.2 for Zone 2/22 and the key-operated IS330.2 are cheaper, simpler and last for days on one charge. A dedicated mining section lists the M1 and M2 approved models for underground use.

Fixed and cordless telephones
