The Durabook U11I-EX is an 11.6 inch fully rugged Windows 11 tablet for hazardous areas classified as Zone 2 (gas) and Zone 22 (dust). For buyers looking for an intrinsically safe or explosion proof Windows tablet: the protection concept on the ATEX certificate is intrinsic safety, level ic, with the marking II 3G Ex ic IIC T4 Gc for gas and II 3D Ex ic IIIB T135°C Dc for dust. The approval is ATEX only (Type Examination Certificate TPS 23 ATEX 123637 0001 X Rev. 01, TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH). There is no IECEx certificate for this tablet.
The tablet runs Windows 11 Pro 64-bit on a 12th Gen Intel Core processor with vPro, has a fanless thermal design and is rated IP66 and MIL-STD-810H by Durabook. The U11I-EX is equipment category 3 (EPL Gc and Dc). It is not intended for Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 20, Zone 21 or for mining (group I). For dust it is certified for group IIIB (non-conductive dust), not for conductive dust (group IIIC).
Specific conditions of use (X)
- Use the tablet packed in the leather bag provided by Twinhead. The bag must not be removed in the hazardous area.
- Do not connect the tablet to, or disconnect it from, any external devices or interfaces in an explosive atmosphere.
- Use only the power adaptor provided by Twinhead, model FSP065-RBBN3 (19 V, 3.42 A, 65 W).
The warning label in the certificate adds:
- Use only Japone Technology Inc. X11BA-H (9600 mAh) or X11BA-M (4800 mAh) batteries.
- Do not replace or charge the battery when an explosive atmosphere is present.
- Do not open when an explosive atmosphere is present.
The certificate refers to the manufacturer's ATEX user manual for installation and use. Durabook lists an ATEX Protection Case among the U11I-EX accessories and does not publish the box contents, so check in your quote or order that the leather bag required by the certificate is included. Durabook also lists a USB-C AC adapter as an accessory; the certificate only permits the FSP065-RBBN3 adaptor. The datasheet mentions a hot-swappable battery and an optional bridge battery; under the certificate, batteries may only be replaced outside the explosive atmosphere.
