The i.safe MOBILE IS940.M1 is an intrinsically safe 10.1 inch Android tablet that is certified for mines susceptible to firedamp and for Zone 1/21 hazardous areas. In the ATEX marking, equipment group I stands for equipment intended for mines susceptible to firedamp (methane), and category M1 means the equipment is designed with a very high level of protection so that it can remain in operation while an explosive atmosphere is present (equipment protection level Ma). The additional markings II 2G Ex ib IIC T4 Gb and II 2D Ex ib IIIC T135°C Db cover gas and dust areas in Zone 1/21 outside mining.
The tablet runs Android 14 on a Qualcomm QCM6490 octa-core processor with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, and has 5G, Wi-Fi 6, a 50 MP rear camera and a replaceable 8160 mAh battery. The same ATEX and IECEx certificates also cover the IS945.M1, which is the Windows version of this tablet.

10.1 inch display, usable with gloves
10.1 inch (25.65 cm) display with 1200 x 1920 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 3rd generation. The touchscreen can be operated with gloves.
5G, Wi-Fi 6 and NFC
5G NR and 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo positioning. SIM support is 1 nano SIM plus eSIM.
Replaceable 8160 mAh battery
The 8160 mAh Li-Ion battery is replaceable. According to the certificate, the battery may only be replaced outside the hazardous area.
Docking and audio accessories
The 12-pin docking interface for the IS-DS940.M1 docking station allows charging and data transfer within hazardous areas. The 16-pin ISM interface connects approved intrinsically safe audio accessories and add-ons.
Programmable keys and rugged housing

Specific conditions of use (X)
- Replace the battery only outside the hazardous area.
- Protect the device from impacts with high impact energy, excessive UV light and high electrostatic charge processes.
- The USB-C interface is protected by an IP interface cover and may only be opened outside the hazardous area.
- Close the 16-pin ISM interface with its cover when it is not in use in the hazardous area.
- Protect the device from oils, greases and hydraulic fluids.
- Permitted ambient temperature -20°C to +55°C; permitted charging temperature 0°C to +45°C.
According to the certificate, only the i.safe PROTECTOR 2.0, other accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE or accessories that ensure Um = 5.88 V may be connected to the USB-C interface. Always follow the certificate and the manufacturer's safety instructions.
