The Xciel XCRiPad Pro 11 (2024) is a rugged enclosure for the Apple iPad Pro 11 inch (2024) with M4 chip. It is intended for Zone 2 gas areas, for buyers looking for an ATEX, intrinsically safe or explosion proof iPad Pro case for that zone. The protection concept is intrinsic safety at protection level ic: the listing confirmation states the protection method Ex ic IIC T4 Gc for an ambient temperature of -20°C to +50°C. The case is not intended for Zone 0 or Zone 1, or for dust zones (Zone 20, 21 and 22).

The ATEX basis is listing confirmation TUVNA 25 EX 543X, issued by TÜV Rheinland of North America on 25 February 2025. For North America, the version installed by Xciel also carries Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D, T6 and IP54 under LabTest certificate LC22379-1. There is no IECEx certificate for this case.

Certification

For equipment intended for Zone 2 (category 3), Directive 2014/34/EU allows conformity assessment by internal production control, without an EU-type examination by a notified body. The listing confirmation states that it relates only to the design and construction of the equipment at the time of evaluation, and that it is the manufacturer's and supplier's responsibility to verify that the product meets all applicable requirements of the Directive.

Specific conditions of use (X)

The listing confirmation TUVNA 25 EX 543X states these special conditions:

• Explosion hazard: do not connect or charge the equipment unless the area is known to be non-hazardous.
• Use only an Apple recommended A/C charger.
• The tablet must not be removed from the case.
• The equipment shall not be rubbed or cleaned with solvents or a dry cloth when used within a potentially explosive atmosphere.

The LabTest certificate LC22379-1 adds as conditions of acceptability that no other equipment shall be connected to the device while in the hazardous area, and that the device shall not be charged while in a hazardous area.
