The Zebra Xslate L10 Series Android rugged tablet is certified for use in ATEX / IECEx Zone 2 hazardous location environments. This certification expands the environments where the L10 Android can be used to include more oil & gas, mining, industrial, and manufacturing opportunities. ATEX / IECEx Zone 2 certification requires that a product meet rigorous standards to ensure it is safe where flammable or explosive gasses, particles, liquids, or vapors could be excessive under abnormal conditions.

ATEX configurations feature an external armor that protects the tablet throughout service life to ensure liquid and dust protection.

A: No, the ATEX units are tested to the ATEX standard for durability compliance.

Q: Does ATEX / IECEX cover C1D2 certification?

A: ATEX / IECEX certification does not imply C1D1 certification, but the standard L10 Android SKUs are C1D2 certified.

Q: Are units sold prior to the certification date retroactively considered ATEX?

A: No, only units sold after the certification date are considered to be ATEX. The ATEX units feature an exterior case that will be easily recognizable as different than a standard L10 configuration.

Q: Were there mechanical changes made to the L10 for ATEX certification?

A: A specialized armor case has been created to meet ATEX requirements. The armor case provides a higher level of protection to assure the tablet enclosure is not damaged. The armor case prevents use of any external module or docking station.

Q: What environments are suitable for ATEX Zone 2 device use?

A: Zone 2 – A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas, vapor or mist is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it does occur, will persist for a short period only.

Q: Are there any software differences of the ATEX L10?

A: No, the underlying L10 system is the same.

Q: Can I hot swap the battery?

A: Yes, but only in a non-hazardous location. By ATEX/IECEx rule a tool must be used to remove the battery hatch to access the battery. This prevents accidental removal in a hazardous location.

Q: Why is there a screw locking the I/O door and DC door.

A: Same as above, By ATEX/IECEx rule a tool must be used to open any door. This prevents accidental access to arcing contacts in a hazardous location.

Q: Must the screw be replaced in the door when re-entering a hazardous location?

A: Yes, DC door screw, I/O door screw and battery latch cover must be screwed in place inside hazardous zone.
